The Art Experience

The Art Experience program is designed to encourage everyone to become actively engaged in the arts - as an artist or one who simply enjoys art. Art Experiences will be scheduled on an on-going basis. The events and workshops will typically be half-day or full-day in length, often scheduled on weekends. They are available to everyone and - very affordable! Each new art experience will be announced through e-blasts to all newsletter subscribers. If you are not a subscriber, click here to sign up today!

Experiences are offered in three categories:

Art Appreciation Events - Develop a greater appreciation and deeper understanding of a variety of art forms, mediums, styles, and artists through art excursions, guest speakers, exhibits and more.

Introductory Art Workshops - Take your first step into the world of art - as the artist. Try your hand at a new medium or style. Enjoy one or two-day workshops to test the waters.

Artistic Development Opportunities - The path of the developing artist from novice to emerging to professional requires a skill set that is not always easily obtained. Let us help you! Learn from those who have walked the path before you through presentations by guest speakers, workshops, open studios and other diverse experiences.

There's been a growing interest in the topic of bringing the freshness of plein air painting into the studio where one can make larger work.

How does one make the transition?

Alan Wolton has made the transition. In this one-hour presentation Alan will show his photographs from world travels and the paintings he has made from them. Alan first made his career as a plein air painter. In 1975 he did a large scale series on the cathedrals of London. He now travels the world and is able to take his photos from his travels and translate them in his Sedona studio into large scale works that have the spontaneity that his collectors have come to expect.

Alan will give tips for taking photos in the field and outline his process for making them into paintings. This includes everything from evaluating the images and deciding what has good potential to sometimes pasting them together and most importantly - integrating feeling and memory.
